Update A Rama

(I really do have these well-thought out, writerly posts floating around in the back of my head. It's just that our life keeps moving faster than my computer access)

So, as many of you now know, Thomas had an MRI last week. MRI days are always hold-your-breath days, but we finally learned that Thomas's tumor has not recurred yet. That's the good news, Thomas's oncologist emphasized, as we sucked our breath in even further.

The slightly bad news is that Thomas has a cyst the size of, oh, let's say a cotton ball, near the location of the tumor. Apparently this kind of thing can happen after a surgery like the one he had in March. It's bad news because he'll need surgery to take care of it. But it's not-so-bad news because it's not a difficult surgery, as far as brain surgery goes, and it's got definite edges and I don't even think they have to remove the thing, just sort of poke it.*

I don't know how to feel about it - obviously we're scared of surgery, but I'm so relieved that the tumor isn't back yet . . . Anyway that's Tuesday. We'd appreciate your prayers and good thoughts on that day.

This week is a big one medically - in addition to surgery, we'll learn a little more about the state of Thomas's tracheostomy and also get the plan for radiation, which will start very soon after his birthday. As I get time - and there won't be much for the next week or two - I'll let you know what the docs think the next few months will look like for us.

In the meantime, we are going to party. Saturday is such a compendium of events for us - Thomas's first birthday party, Scott's turning thirty, and our webmaster and friend Monkey Attack Victim is turning ...well, it's her birthday, too. Even if Thomas is still in ICU, we are going to celebrate him and our journey this year with thankfulness and with fabu-cake ** and hopefully some rapidly-uploaded pictures of docs in party hats for those of you watching from home.

Ok, kids, that's the new news for now.

Thoughts and big, big prayers are with you and Thomas during his surgery. He has a strong spirit, which I'm sure he inherited from his Mom and Dad, and many Angels watching over him. Peace be with you.
