Super Important Appointment

Five a.m. is always early, and on MRI days, it is even earlier. The alarm goes off, and for once Scott is up before I am. I cover my head up and wish the day was gone.

December has snuck in unwelcome here. Holiday music and decorations are everywhere, but we've been afraid to celebrate. With an MRI coming in the first week of December, we've just been holding our breaths.

It's been a while since we've been to the hospital together for a Super Important Appointment. There were Christmas trees all over the hospital, but I didn't even point them out to Thomas as we waited. Even the fish in the radiation waiting room were hiding.

but. But! We got good news. Our Very Wonderful and Even More Popular Than Usual oncologist used words like "great," and "better than expected," and "best case scenario at this point." The MRI showed no change at all since the last visit, and everyone agreed that, even having been sick this week, Thomas looks great.

Thomas couldn't wait to share the news with his fans. He held his fist up to his ear and said, "Uh-hlo?" several times while we were making happy phone calls. And when we got home, he followed me around while I put up the Christmas decorations. Come, let us adore him, indeed.*

*Ok, ok, maybe that's taking it a bit far. But I know a gift baby when I see one.
